There’s a good reason that the Honda Civic sedan continues to be a popular choice for drivers on the performance vehicle scene over vehicles like the Chevy Cruze; Civics come with a tough reputation for being both tough when it comes to performance and even tougher when it comes to reliability.
Even better, Civics have proven themselves again and again to be easy going when it comes to fuel consumption. With base level performance of 143hp, 2014 Civic Sedans equipped with an automatic transmission earn an EPA-estimated 39 mpg on the highway,* an increase of 4 mpg above the Chevy Cruze LS Auto’s 35 highway mpg.
A More Efficient Mover
The 2014 Civic Sedan comes standardly equipped with a 143-hp 1.8L Inline 4-cylinder engine with 129 lb-ft of torque. This is compared with the 138-hp 1.8L 4-cylinder engine on the Cruze, with 125 lb-ft of torque.
We mentioned that the Civic takes the cake when it comes to fuel economy on the highway, but the difference is even greater when it comes to city driving. Civic Sedan models with an automatic transmission get an estimated 30mpg on city roads, compared with the 22mpg by Cruze LS auto models.
As for the drivetrain set-up, both vehicles come with a front stabilizer bar, while only the Civic comes with a standard rear stabilizer bar. The Civic also comes with a fully independent multi-link rear suspension, whereas the Cruze comes with a semi-independent torsion bearing rear-suspension. Both vehicles are front wheel driven and have similar turn diameters.
Great on Performance, and Features
There are plenty of options that come standard on the Civic that help to enhance your driving experience. Many of these options do not come standard on the Cruze. Here are just a few of them.
- Cruise control
- A rear-view camera, helping you to see what’s behind you when backing
- A remote trunk release
