The Accord Hybrid utilizes an engine and motor combination system to generate its power under the hood. Working in tandem with the electric motor is a 2.0L in-line 4-cylinder engine that delivers reliable and dynamic performance on the road and contributes 143 horsepower and 129 lb-ft of torque to the total engine-motor hybrid powertrain.
Alongside the engine is an efficient AC Synchronous Permanent Magnet Electric Motor that is powered by a lithium-ion battery. Unlike previous models, the 2018 Accord Hybrid moves the motor from behind the rear seats to under them. The move frees up valuable cargo space in the trunk, giving the Accord Hybrid the same 17 cubic feet of cargo volume as the other traditional engine models. On its own, the motor contributes 181 horsepower and 232 lb.-ft of torque, for 212 total horsepower.
The powertrain includes a number of features that help the Accord Hybrid perform at its highest level while providing helpful conveniences like remote engine start and hill start assist.
Working in tandem with the engine and motor hybrid is an Electronic Continuously Variable Transmission (E-CVT) with Sport Mode and Deceleration Selectors. This transmission expertly delivers the power generated under the hood to the front wheels. The result is unmitigated power and stellar performance. And with Sport Mode and Deceleration Selectors, the Accord Hybrid is engaging and fun to drive.
One of the major reasons for choosing a hybrid vehicle is the incredible fuel economy. The Accord Hybrid has a fuel tank capacity of 12.8 gallons and achieves an EPA estimated fuel economy of 47 mpg in the city, 47mpg on the highway, and 47 mpg combined* in all trim levels.
Honda has a deep commitment to helping drivers stay safe with passive and active features as well as available driver-assistive technology. The active safety features help the Accord stay at the top of its game, even in inclement weather or less-than-ideal road conditions. It’s perfect for Detroit’s streets in all four seasons.
