Safety Features of the 2019 Honda Fit

In years past, drivers who wanted to access top-tier safety features were limited in their options to bulky and less-efficient sport utility vehicles. Today, an increasing number of small and subcompact cars are being designed with intelligent safety tech that can help prevent collisions, and Detroit’s drivers are taking notice! The 2019 Honda Fit’s safety features make it one of a kind, and we’re not the only ones who think so: the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has given the new Fit a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating*. Honda Sensing Technologies

Over the years, Honda has done a lot to make the roads safer for everyone. This year, they’ve made a giant step towards that goal by making Honda Sensing safety features available in every Honda Fit that’s equipped with a CVT. This advanced safety package is an optional upgrade in the Fit’s LX and Sport trim levels, and on the EX and up it’s a standard feature! Honda Sensing includes the following technologies.

  • Adaptive Cruise Control: This Honda Sensing safety feature will make every commute more enjoyable. When you enter cruise control, the Fit’s onboard computer will take your preferred speed and follow distance into account to keep you moving with the flow of traffic.
  • Lane Determination: When you drive the Fit, you’ll be able to take advantage of a Lane Departure Warning that beeps to alert you if you start to change lanes without signaling. The Honda Sensing package also includes a Lane Keeping Assist System and Road Departure Mitigation. Both features can gently adjust your steering to keep you centered in your lane.
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System: Head-On Collisions are among the most dangerous, but when you drive the 2019 Honda Fit, you’ll enjoy superior protection from most surprises. The Collision Mitigation Braking System uses cameras and radar to check for obstacles in your line of travel and can bring you to a complete stop if it senses danger.

Driver Assistance and Active Safety

The Honda Sensing features are not the only components that set the Fit apart from competitors. Every Fit trim comes equipped with a generous array of Active safety features, and upper-level models include additional Driver-Assistive technologies.

  • Honda LaneWatch: The Honda LaneWatch system lets you take advantage of a small, side-view mirror-mounted camera with a perfect view of your blind spot. Whenever you activate your right-hand turn signal, you’ll be able to view the camera’s live feed on an easy-to-see screen. It’s a standard feature on EX and EX-L models.
  • Automatic High-Beam Headlights: Automatic High Beam Headlights detect oncoming traffic and adjust their brightness accordingly, so you can maximize your visibility without disturbing other drivers. This feature is included on all models with Honda Sensing, and Daytime Running Lights come standard in every trim.
  • Multi-Angle Rearview Camera: The Fit may be small and easy to maneuver, but drivers will still appreciate the Multi-Angle Rearview Camera that’s a standard feature on all models. As soon as you shift into reverse you’ll be able to switch between wide angle, top down, and normal viewing modes.
  • Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control: Standard features like Vehicle Stability Assistance with Traction Control will let you pull out all the stops when you’re moving around a curve or taking a sharp turn. This technology can automatically adjust the speed at which your inside tires rotate, providing more control when the terrain is working against you.

Passive Safety Features

Where the Fit’s Active and Driver-Assistive Safety features are largely designed with crash prevention in mind, its Passive Safety features work to make the collisions that do occur less dangerous. Each of the features listed here comes standard on every model.

  • Seat Belts and LATCH: Three-point seatbelts have been equipped on all five of the Honda Fit’s seating positions. The driver and front passenger will also benefit from built-in reminders and automatic tensioning. Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children, otherwise known as LATCH, come standard here as well.
  • Advanced Compatibility Engineering: A sturdy, cleverly designed frame allows the Fit to stand up to collisions that would cause severe damage to other vehicles of its size. Its Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure utilizes a combination of rigid and collapsible building materials to direct the most dangerous collision forces away from the cabin.
  • Front and Side Airbags: Every Fit comes standard with three sets of airbags. Advanced Front Airbags, SmartVent Front Side Airbags, and Side Curtain Airbags with a Rollover Sensor provide all-around protection for up to five passengers.
