The hybrid system of the Insight is comprised of an AC Synchronous Permanent-Magnet Electric Motor powered by a lithium ion battery along with a gas-powered 1.5L in-line 4-cylinder engine. In most driving situations, the Insight relies on its electric motor, with the gasoline engine doubling as a generator to recharge the battery. Considered on its own, the engine produces 107 horsepower while the electric motor produces 129 horsepower. Altogether, the Insight has a total system horsepower of 151.
One of the chief reasons to choose a hybrid vehicle is to reap the benefits of driving a fuel-efficient vehicle. Not only is it a better option for the environment but it also saves times and money with less frequent visits to the gas station. The hybrid system works in tandem with an electric continuously variable transmission, or e-CVT, that delivers power to the front wheels. For the entry-level LX and mid-level EX trim, the EPA estimated fuel economy is 55 city / 49 highway / 52 combined mpg.* Choose the top-of-the-line Touring model and get 51 city / 45 highway / 48 combined mpg.*
The Insight’s 3-Mode Driving System creates a more engaging experience behind the wheel. The Econ mode is comfortable and fuel efficient, perfect for everyday driving or when you want to have a quiet and peaceful cabin insulated from road and engine noise. The Sport mode transforms the Insight into a sport-tuned car, with a different feel at the pedals and accentuated engine growls when you accelerate. And the EV mode will switch the Insight to operate solely on electric power.
The Insight features an extensive list of active safety features that boost its performance. With more reliability through different weather and road conditions, the Insight is ready to take on your next adventure.
As drivers explore the upper trim levels, there are even more performance-centered features to take note of, including the sophisticated suspension systems that create a smooth ride. And with Eco Assist, drivers can adjust their inputs to drive more efficiently and get the most out of their hybrid.
