We’ve been fans of the 2014 Honda Accord here at Detroit Area Honda Dealers for quite a while now.
We were excited when it was released, excited to hear it was the 20 millionth Honda vehicle produced in the US, and we’re excited now that we hear it’s been named Green Car of the Year by Green Car Journal.
Competing in a field that has countless new and innovative technologies as well as different approaches to environmentally-friendly driving, the jury of environmental and auto experts ended up most impressed by what the 2014 Accord had to offer.
What Makes the Accord Impressive
While we can’t look into the minds of the jury that named the Accord their Green Car of the Year, we can get an idea of just what it is that may have helped push them in that direction. And our first thought is the fuel economy. Whether you opt for the standard or the V6 Accord, you’ve got a pretty efficient midsize sedan:
- The 2014 Accord LX with continuously variable transmission gets an EPA-estimated 36 mpg on the highway*
- But if you’re a driver that wants the V6 engine, the 2014 Accord V6 with automatic transmission earned an EPA-estimated 34 highway mpg.*
We were pretty impressed to find that upgrading the power still yielded a pretty efficient engine for the Accord.
Other Awards Won
Green Car Journal aren’t the only ones recognizing the Accord, far from it in fact. The Accord has taken home quite a few trophies, including:
- 2013 All-Star Award by Automobile Magazine
- KBB’s Best Resale Value award for midsize car
- Car and Driver’s 10 Best Cars List (for the 28th time!)
