When you’re looking for a new crossover, there are few vehicles that can boast both power and efficiency, and while the 2015 Toyota RAV4’s mpg may seem lacking at first, it also comes up short on power when compared to the 2015 Honda CR-V. It’s tough for drivers to find an engine that is able to beat the competition on both efficiency and power, yet the new CR-V has no trouble doing both.
Honda’s Engine is State-of-the-Art
Under the hood of every 2015 CR-V is a 2.4L four-cylinder engine capable of 185 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque, compared to the 2015 RAV4’s 176 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque. Now, that is a small difference, we’ll admit, but when you add on the fact that Honda’s crossover is significantly more fuel-efficient, we think you’ll see that the CR-V has a better-engineered powertrain.
And about that efficiency; the 2015 Honda CR-V 2WD earns an EPA-estimated 34 highway mpg* to the 31 mpg of the RAV4. It used to be believed that you couldn’t get superior efficiency without sacrificing power, and yet Honda’s engine breaks that trend. Of course, Honda is known for breaking trends and setting standards.
When we say that Honda sets standards, we do include the standard features as well. The 2015 Honda CR-V LX comes with standard features that set it apart from competing models. The entry-level LX trim comes with Bluetooth, a touchscreen infotainment system, a rearview camera, and so much more.
While the RAV4 does have many comparable features, they require upgrade beyond the entry-level trim, while the CR-V comes with a great suite of tech features without the need to upgrade.
