Illuminated iPhone 5 Apps held in handHonda has recently joined up with Apple to work on the integration of their famous Siri interface into the driving experience with CarPlay. What is it that you can expect from this partnership?

We only know a little bit so far, but we’ll let you know as soon as we do when you can take full advantage of your iPhone and Siri in Honda vehicles.

What is CarPlay?

While Honda already has the i-MID interface for managing your smartphone, this partnership with Apple will give a seamless integration of an iPhone into the vehicle, letting you control it via a touchscreen, dashboard or steering wheel buttons, or even the voice controlled Siri.

Basically, CarPlay is a coordinated effort between Apple and Honda to keep drivers from trying to fumble with their phone while they’re on the go and still giving them access to a range of different features.

Announced as “iOS in the car” by Apple, it’s since been rebranded as CarPlay and should work with all iPhone 5 models. Beyond being able to control Apple apps, it will be able to control third party applications as well.

Apple has done well to reimagine their apps to be used handsfree and eyesfree while driving, letting the driver stay connected while focused on the road.

In the Meantime

For now, drivers can take full advantage of an array of great standard tech features on Honda vehicles. Many new entry-level Honda models come standard with modern features like:

  • Bluetooth phone and audio
  • Honda’s i-MID infotainment system
  • Built in camera
  • and much more
